Self-Monitoring Programs

All our industrial units are regularly inspected by each country’s official Inspection Service, allowing us to export to a variety of international markets and supply products for domestic sales.

In keeping with our commitment to ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of our products throughout the production process, we maintain strict monitoring and control systems via our Self-Monitoring Programs.

These include programs such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sampling Plans, Traceability Programs, and Animal Welfare initiatives. Each of these programs is designed to continuously improve our processes, supported by skilled team members at all levels of the organization.

It is essential that everyone directly involved in production is well organized, trained, and empowered to implement improvements based on a consistent problem-solving methodology.

In addition, daily monitoring ensures that every product is manufactured to the highest standards of quality and safety.

  • Quality Indicators

As part of our daily monitoring tools, we use a quality indicator matrix to identify potential process adjustments, best practices, and opportunities for continuous improvement across all industrial units.

This information helps us define our objectives, which we review on an annual basis or as needed to promote continuous improvement in operational, manufacturing, and product supply standards across all our businesses.

    Laboratories

Our in-house laboratories are accredited and/or recognized under ISO 17025 and are strategically located in regions that support our operations. We also work with third-party laboratories that uphold the same high standards of reliability. These laboratories perform microbiological and physicochemical analyses to verify composition and ensure the safety of our processed products.

    Traceability

Our traceability systems track every product from its origin to the customer. All our products are properly labeled, including information on composition, preservation, and allergen-free status.

The labels of our Estância 92 and Minerva Angus product lines also feature a QR code that provides details about the product’s sustainable origin, animal welfare and quality practices, and environmental efficiency certifications such as Eu Reciclo (“I Recycle”) and Energia Renovável (“Renewable Energy”).

All our units follow procedures that ensure full product identification and traceability in the event of a recall.

Customer Service

Our Customer Service Center (SAC) is available to answer questions, receive suggestions and compliments, and resolve any issues. We value transparency and close relationships with our customers and consumers, offering efficient and accessible after-sales support.

Our commitment to fast, high-quality service has earned us the RA1000 Seal on the Reclame Aqui platform, which recognizes excellence in customer relations.

  • Animal Welfare Management

At Minerva Foods, animal welfare (AW) is at the heart of what we do. We recognize animals as sentient beings and have a zero-tolerance policy toward abuse, neglect, or mistreatment. We uphold the Five Domains of Animal Welfare, as established by the Farm Animal Welfare Committee (FAWC).

    Animal Welfare and Processes

We care for animals from the moment they enter our supply chain. Through rigorous management assessments, industry-leading procedures, and strict supplier controls, we ensure that all animals are treated with care and respect.

Our animal welfare standards go beyond the legal requirements of the countries where we operate. They are based on internationally recognized codes and protocols, including European Union Regulation 1099, the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) Protocol in the United States, and the Traceability Regulations of the European Union and Chile.

At Minerva Foods, we incorporate the One Welfare concept into our operations, promoting the interconnected well-being of animals, people, and the environment. Our internal guidelines and procedures are regularly audited to uphold these principles.

Global Policy

Minerva Foods’ Global Animal Welfare Policy reflects our commitment to ensuring care, dignity, and respect for all animals in our supply chain — including cattle, sheep, pigs, broiler chickens, fish, laying hens, and dairy cows. We believe that promoting good livestock practices enhances animal welfare and helps reduce the need for antimicrobials, as outlined in our Global Antibiotic Use Policy.

Additionally, our Animal Welfare Program establishes procedures and controls that are applied throughout the entire production chain, incorporating ranching, transport, arrival at the processing facility, and the pre-slaughter and slaughter stages.

  • Our Animals

We are engaged in the production and sale of fresh beef and lamb; the processing of proteins such as beef, pork, and poultry; the distribution of products including fish, sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry, and plant-based items; and the processing of slaughter by-products such as leather, casings, meat and bone meal, tallow, and blood.

All our operations and business units adhere to responsible animal welfare practices and strictly follow established policies and program guidelines.

We are committed to the humane stunning and slaughter of all animals, regardless of species (cattle, broiler chickens, pigs, sheep, fish, laying hens, and dairy cows), with exceptions only for specific markets that follow religious slaughter requirements.

All livestock received at Minerva Foods facilities must be accompanied by a Producer’s Declaration and a Letter of Guarantee, certifying that no hormones or antibiotics were used as growth promoters. Each shipment must also include documentation providing details on the animals to be slaughtered, including any medications administered and confirmation of the absence of certain antiparasitic treatments.

The use of antibiotics must be recorded and reported to Minerva Foods. Antibiotics may only be administered for clinical treatment in the event of an animal health issue; prophylactic and metaphylactic use is not recommended. In addition, chemical residues and contaminants are monitored throughout the production chain through post-slaughter sample collection and laboratory testing. These procedures ensure compliance with market requirements and guarantee the safety of our products.

Our Value Chain

BEA+ Minerva (Animal Welfare+) is a global program created to promote animal welfare across the entire Minerva Foods supply chain. The program focuses on mapping suppliers and ensuring transparency of performance indicators. It drives continuous improvement through the exchange of best practices, case studies, and partnerships with non-profit and industry organizations.

Through ongoing training sessions, workshops, and technical materials, BEA+ Minerva supports and educates producers and suppliers, adapting leading animal welfare practices to the specific needs of each species and production system.

Program Objectives:

Connection with Suppliers

Strengthen relationships and interactions with suppliers of animal-based raw materials

Internal Engagement

Reinforce actions and Animal Welfare in areas such as Livestock Purchasing and Trading

Performance Indicators

Improve animal welfare (AW) indicators across the supply chain.

Risk Management

Strengthen risk management related to animal welfare

Public Commitments

Serve as a driving force for Minerva Foods’ public commitments to animal welfare

Business Partner Code of Conduct

Minerva Foods has implemented a Business Partner Code of Conduct to engage our supply chain and ensure compliance with our Animal Welfare Policy. This policy connects the Declaration of Compliance with Social and Environmental Criteria, Compliance, and Animal Welfare to our contractual process.

We verify adherence to these guidelines and public commitments annually through questionnaires and on-site technical visits.

  • As part of the Laço de Confiança (Bond of Trust) program, we carry out a series of participatory initiatives to support cattle suppliers in implementing animal welfare, quality, and sustainability practices. These include “Talking About Livestock” events — regular meetings that address technical aspects of livestock production and promote animal welfare and sustainability throughout the supply chain. Key sustainability topics covered include deforestation, waste management, and responsible use of natural resources.

Animal Welfare in
Cattle Transport

To reinforce Minerva Foods’ commitment to animal welfare throughout the pre-slaughter process, we developed a Manual of Recommendations for Transporters. This manual establishes the best practices and regulations that must be followed in livestock transport, ensuring quality, compliance, and safety — always prioritizing animal welfare.

Access the manual

Animal Welfare Handbook

We also produce periodic support materials, such as the Animal Welfare Handbook, to share best practices with our partner suppliers — an essential link in our supply chain.

For suppliers of other animal-based raw materials, adherence to animal welfare standards is a key contractual requirement. Contracts may be terminated in cases of noncompliance with our policy.

Training

Training is one of Minerva Foods’ main strategies for ensuring animal welfare across all operations. We provide training to all professionals who handle live cattle — including both direct and third-party employees, as well as cattle transport drivers.

Our corporate Quality, Livestock Purchasing, and Sustainability teams also receive regular training through lectures, onboarding sessions, workshops, and conferences.

These sessions are led by external consultants and Minerva Foods’ technical animal welfare specialists, with the goal of continuously strengthening our culture of animal welfare.
