A great alternative is the irresistible polpettone parmigiana, a typical Italian recipe that satisfy the taste of people from around the world. Prepared with ground beef, seasonings and spices, it stands out for its consistency that ensures a unique, flavorful experience.

This dish is ideal when served with good wine and companionship. What about preparing this delicacy for your Sunday evening dinner?

INGREDIENTS

Polpettone:

  • 1 ground knuckle cut
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 100 ml olive oil
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 500 g grated mozzarella
  • 100 g wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • Vegetable oil

Tomato sauce:

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large chopped onion
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 4 cans Pelati tomato
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Green vegetable salad:

  • Watercress
  • Sprouts

DIRECTIONS

Put ground knuckle, salt, black pepper, garlic, olive oil and breadcrumbs in a large bowl and stir thoroughly. Shape polpettone into 150 g portions and stuff with grated mozzarella. For breading, coat the stuffed polpettone in wheat flour, then in whisked eggs and then in breadcrumbs.  Put vegetable oil in a pan and warm it up. Once warmed up, fry the breaded polpettone until golden. Set aside.

Add olive oil in a medium pan to warm up over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and braise for 2 minutes or until withered. Pour Pelati tomato, season with salt and black pepper and let it cook for 20 minutes or until thickened. Serve the polpettone with tomato sauce accompanied by watercress and sprouts salad.
