Certificate attests to the renewable origin of consumed electrical energy, highlighting the commitment to environmental impact reduction.
Minerva Energia, a subsidiary of Minerva Foods dedicated to the commercialization of electrical energy in the Free Contracting Environment (ACL) in Brazil, announces a partnership with the Totum Institute for the commercialization of the International Renewable Energy Certificate, the I-REC.
The I-REC Seal is a global renewable energy attribute tracking system designed to facilitate reliable accounting of megawatt-hours (MWh) assigned to a specific consumer, in addition to symbolizing the commitment to reducing harmful gases and the impact generated by energy consumption, referred to as Scope 2 emissions, in the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program.
Renewable energy certificates from the I-REC system are issued and traded as evidence of clean energy consumption, through the recognized analysis methodology of the I-REC Standard, an international entity that controls the system and has a local issuer in each country or region.
In Brazil, the concession for the commercialization of the I-REC Seal is granted through the Totum Institute, which operates in regulated and self-regulated markets, with the aim of providing companies, associations, and business chains with solutions in line with global trends in certification.
With this partnership, Minerva Energia expands the possibilities for the development of market solutions for its commercial partners, aiming to reduce direct and indirect energy costs through structured and customized products that contribute to a more sustainable activity.
“We are very pleased with the partnership with the Totum Institute, as the I-REC system is crucial for companies engaged in ESG best practices. It is a great achievement to be able to contribute to our partners’ goals and evolve in the Brazilian energy market, offering increasingly comprehensive solutions,” details Bruno Paiva, Risk, Back Office, and Contracts Manager at Minerva Energia.
